Group Captain David Roberts, MBE, MM

During an air raid on RAF Kenley 18 Aug 1940, Aircraftman 2nd Class Roberts was in charge of a unit of the ground defences and, although under heavy fire, succeeded in destroying one enemy aircraft and causing damage to another. It was one of the hardest days fighting during the Battle of Britain.

The Battle of Monte Cassino

Both 2771 Squadron and 2788 Squadron RAF Regiment saw heavy fighting at Monte Cassino in an infantry role as part of the 2nd New Zealand Division and 4th British Division respectively. It was here that RAF Regiment Squadrons 3-inch mortars were a highly-valued asset by Commanders.
