Corporal George Henry Freeman BEM

Corporal George Henry Freeman was awarded the British Empire Medal (Military Division) for gallantry. As such it was the first award made to a Gunner for gallantry after the formation of the RAF Regiment 1 February 1942. His citation was published in the London Gazette dated 10 July 1942.

David Roberts, MBE, MM

Group Captain David Roberts, MBE, MM

During an air raid on RAF Kenley 18 Aug 1940, Aircraftman 2nd Class Roberts was in charge of a unit of the ground defences and, although under heavy fire, succeeded in destroying one enemy aircraft and causing damage to another. It was one of the hardest days fighting during the Battle of Britain.

Operation Diver

Intelligence sources had first reported in 1943, of the advanced work the Germans were carrying out on a variety of pilotless and guided weapons to bombard the UK and disrupt any invasion fleet from forming.
